Fresh imports include 440,000 sacks of urea and over 1 million sacks of DAP

The Salt Trading Corporation Limited (STC) has reported that more than 1.52 million sacks—equivalent to 76,150 tonnes—of chemical fertiliser have arrived at Kolkata port in India, with transport to Nepal now under way.

The consignment includes 440,000 sacks of urea and 1.08 million sacks of DAP. Each sack typically weighs 50 kg.

STC said it has already informed provincial governments about quota-based distribution from its warehouses, and provinces have allocated quotas to municipalities.

“All registered dealers are requested to coordinate with their municipalities and the relevant offices of the corporation to distribute fertilisers according to the quotas,” STC said in a statement on Friday, August 15.

The announcement came a day after Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Ramnath Adhikari told Parliament that persistent rain had slowed unloading, bagging, and rail transport of fertiliser at Kolkata port.

“Three ships loaded with fertiliser remain on hold there, delaying the arrival of 60,000 tonnes of urea,” he said on Thursday, August 14, adding that STC, Krishi Samagri Company Limited, and the Nepali Consulate General in Kolkata were working to expedite transport.
