The government on Friday, August 15, honoured seven companies for their exemplary practices in occupational safety and health.
The Department of Labour and Occupational Safety, under the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, selected one company from each province.
The honoured companies were Buttabari Tea Pvt. Ltd. from Koshi, Dabur Nepal Pvt. Ltd. from Madhes, Varun Beverages (Nepal) Pvt. Ltd. from Bagmati, Gorkha Brewery Pvt. Ltd. from Gandaki, Vijay Distillery Pvt. Ltd. from Lumbini, Mahakali Sugar Industries Pvt. Ltd. from Sudurpaschim, and Suva Hotel Pvt. Ltd. from Karnali. A letter of appreciation was also presented to Prof. Dr. Sunil Kumar Joshi.
Honouring the companies, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sharat Singh Bhandari said the main indicator of an organisation’s success lies in its occupational health and safety standards. He added that the government has prepared a list of occupational diseases and is committed to implementing legal and policy reforms in the sector.
Chakrapani Pandey, Director General of the department, said the institutions were evaluated against two dozen criteria. He added that the recognition would inspire other organisations to strengthen occupational safety and health practices.
Ministry Secretary Dr. Krishnahari Pushkar clarified that the recognition was not a competition but an acknowledgment of outstanding performance.
