India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri began his two-day Nepal visit on Sunday with back-to-back meetings with the country’s top political leadership.
Misri was received at Tribhuvan International Airport by Gahendra Rajbhandari, Joint Secretary, South Asia Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and India's Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, among others. He then headed straight to Singha Durbar for talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and MoFA joined the meeting.
Misri is reportedly in Kathmandu to deliver New Delhi’s formal invitation to PM Oli, over a year after his return to Baluwatar. The Prime Minister is expected to visit India in mid-September, though both governments have yet to make a formal announcement.
Later in the day, Misri called on President Ramchandra Paudel at Sheetal Niwas, and held separate meetings with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budanilkantha and CPN (Maoist-Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Khumaltar. He also met Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba at Singha Durbar.
Discussions focused on bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest, with both sides stressing their commitment to deepening cooperation.
This is Misri’s second trip to Nepal since assuming office in July 2024; he had visited Kathmandu the following month on a familiarisation tour. He is scheduled to return Monday, August 18.
