The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with TikTok to promote Nepal as a global tourism destination. Under the partnership, stories showcasing Nepal’s attractions and experiences will be shared on the popular short-video platform.
The agreement aims to leverage TikTok’s vast digital reach to highlight Nepal’s landscapes, cultural heritage, festivals, cuisine, and adventure activities through audiovisual content.
Speaking at the signing ceremony on Tuesday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, said the collaboration was not just a promotional event but a campaign to connect Nepal with the new digital generation. He stressed that today’s youth seek authentic stories and experiences before making travel decisions, adding that TikTok would be an effective medium to showcase Nepal’s unique destinations.
Acknowledging tourism as a key pillar of economic growth, Minister Pandey expressed confidence that the initiative would directly benefit rural communities, small entrepreneurs, and local guides. “We have long presented Nepal as the land of mountains and spirituality. But times have changed—digital platforms are now the first source of information for travelers. This partnership opens a new path to connect with the digital generation,” he said.
NTB CEO Deepak Raj Joshi described the MoU as an important milestone in promoting Nepal to the world. He said TikTok’s global reach would not only boost international arrivals but also enable Nepali youths to share their culture and experiences in creative ways.
As per the agreement, NTB will invite international travel content creators to explore Nepal’s mountains, lakes, temples, and homestays to produce digital stories. TikTok will also conduct a workshop in Nepal to train local creators on storytelling, audience engagement, brand collaboration, and producing content that meets global standards.
TikTok’s Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia, Fardous Mottakin, said millions of users already rely on TikTok to discover new destinations and experiences. Calling it an honor to promote Nepal—renowned for its mountains, spirituality, and cultural diversity—he expressed confidence that the partnership would help place Nepal on the global travel map.
The campaign will be rolled out in phases through the remainder of 2025. -- RSS
