The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index dropped 0.72%, or 19.89 points, to close at 2,741.97 on Tuesday, September 2, following a 0.43% gain the previous day.
The market had earlier fallen 1.12% on Sunday and 1.35% last Thursday after three consecutive days of gains.
Daily turnover continued its decline, falling to Rs 4.43 billion, compared to Rs 5.10 billion Monday, Rs 6.06 billion Sunday, and Rs 8.09 billion last Thursday. Around 10.53 million shares changed hands through 89,775 transactions, down from 11.44 million shares in 68,775 transactions on Monday.
The Sensitive Index lost 0.56%, the Float Index 0.65%, and the Sensitive Float Index 0.60%. Of the 250 traded companies, 29 advanced while the rest declined.
Him Star Urja Company Limited (HIMSTAR) led the gainers, jumping 9.98% to Rs 294.20 per share, while Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (USLB) slumped 7.47% to Rs 2,046.76 per share.
Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) recorded the highest turnover at Rs 227.04 million, followed by Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) at Rs 201.10 million and Union Hydropower Limited (UNHPL) at Rs 146.95 million.
All 13 sectoral indices closed in negative territory. The Trading Index suffered the steepest decline at 1.97%, while the Mutual Fund Index fell the least at 0.28%.
Market capitalization slipped to Rs 4,583.84 billion from Rs 4,617.10 billion the previous day.
