The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell for the third consecutive day on Thursday, September 4, dropping 6.55 points, or 0.24 percent, to close at 2,719.77. This followed declines of 0.72 percent Tuesday and 0.57 percent Wednesday, despite a 0.43 percent gain Monday.
Trading activity, however, improved on Thursday. Daily turnover rose to Rs 5.14 billion, up from Rs 4.72 billion Wednesday and Rs 4.43 billion Tuesday. A total of 12.7 million shares changed hands across 69,024 transactions, compared to 11.34 million shares in 68,594 transactions the previous day.
The Sensitive Index edged up 0.23 percent, the Float Index rose 0.25 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index gained 0.16 percent.
Of 251 listed companies traded, 85 advanced, 165 declined, and one remained unchanged. Him Star Urja Company Limited (HIMSTAR) was the top gainer, climbing 9.98 percent to Rs 355.90 per share, while Barahi Hydropower Public Limited (BHPL) led the losers, falling 3.83 percent to Rs 720.02 per share.
Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) recorded the highest turnover at Rs 353.57 million, followed by Bindhyabasini Hydropower Development Company Limited (BHDC) at Rs 190 million and Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) at Rs 176.90 million.
Among the 13 sectoral indices, only two advanced: the Trading Index gained 0.58 percent, and the Mutual Fund Index rose 0.13 percent. Hotels & Tourism and Hydropower sectors were the biggest laggards, each down 0.65 percent.
Overall market capitalization fell to Rs 4,546.74 billion from Rs 4,557.70 billion on Wednesday.
