NEPSE Slides Again, Closing at 2,708.25

Index down 0.42% as weak turnover and broad declines weigh on market sentiment

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday, September 7, dropping 0.42%, or 11.52 points, to close at 2,708.25. It had previously declined 0.72% last Tuesday, 0.57% Wednesday, and 0.24% Tuesday.

Trading activity also slowed on the week’s first trading day, with turnover falling to Rs 4.40 billion from Rs 5.14 billion the previous trading day. 

Over 11.12 million shares changed hands across 58,087 transactions, compared to 12.7 million shares in 69,024 transactions last Thursday.

The Sensitive Index dropped 0.49%, while the Float Index and Sensitive Float Index both declined 0.41%. 

Of the 252 listed companies traded, 79 advanced, while 173 declined.

Him Star Urja Company Limited (HIMSTAR) emerged as the top gainer, surging 9.97% with the last traded price of Rs 391.40 per share. In contrast, Panchakanya Mai Hydropower Ltd (PMHPL) posted the largest decline, falling 4.62%. It was last traded at Rs 356.81 per share.

Union Hydropower Limited (UNHPL) recorded the highest turnover of Rs 299.97 million, followed by Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) at Rs 274.65 million and Everest Bank Limited (EBL) at Rs 221.59 million.

Only three of 13 sectoral indices advanced. The Mutual Fund Index rose the most, 0.43%, followed by the Finance Index, 0.10%, and Manufacturing & Processing, 0.04%. The Hydropower Index recorded the steepest decline, 0.68%.

Overall market capitalization slipped to Rs 4,527.47 billion from Rs 4,546.74 billion the previous day.
