The Nepali Army has stepped in to maintain law and order, announcing that it will, along with other security agencies, be deployed across the country to restore peace following escalating unrest by some groups taking advantage of the Gen Z protest.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, the Army urged any group not to engage in activities such as looting, arson, and vandalism that could inflict serious harm on citizens and public property. It stressed that any such unlawful acts would not be tolerated.
The Army said it decided to step in to control the situation starting 10 p.m. Tuesday night, with all security agencies assuming primary responsibility for safeguarding the country. It also assured that updates would be provided as needed and appealed to citizens for full cooperation.
The statement added that further information would be released after a reassessment of the security situation.
