The Nepali Army has appealed to the public to maintain peace and cooperate with security agencies as prohibitory orders and a nationwide curfew remain in effect to control escalating unrest following the Gen Z protest which started on September 8.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Army expressed gratitude to citizens for their support in efforts to uphold law and order during the ongoing turmoil. It also conveyed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property during recent protests and urged people to refrain from criminal activities.

The Army said that despite the ban on gatherings, unruly groups have continued to infiltrate protests, resorting to vandalism, arson, looting, violent assaults, and even attempted rape. To prevent further violence, the prohibitory order imposed by the government will remain in force until 5 pm today (September 10), after which a nationwide curfew will be enforced till 6 am on Thursday, September 11, reads the statement issued by the Department of Public Relations and Information of the Nepali Army. Authorities will review the situation and issue further updates accordingly, added the statement.

Essential services, including ambulances, hearses, fire engines, and vehicles carrying health workers and security personnel, will be allowed to operate during the restrictions. The Army urged coordination with nearby security personnel when needed.

The statement noted that discussions are underway among concerned parties to address post-protest challenges and find solutions. At the same time, it warned that any demonstrations, vandalism, looting, arson, or attacks on individuals and property carried out under the guise of protests will be treated as punishable crimes, with strict action taken by security forces.

The Army also called on retired soldiers, civil servants, journalists, and the general public not to follow rumors but to rely solely on official information. Emphasizing the importance of national unity and social harmony, it assured citizens that security agencies remain committed to safeguarding lives and providing humanitarian assistance under all circumstances.
