Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has resumed regular flights after being closed for two days due to disruptions caused by the Gen Z demonstrations.
According to TIA General Manager Hansharaj Pandey, both domestic and international flights restarted on Wednesday evening. The TIA Management Office has been coordinating with security agencies to ensure the smooth movement of passengers.
While services have normalized, officials said the airport is not yet in a position to increase the number of scheduled flights. In line with the prohibitory order in the Kathmandu Valley, passengers are required to carry valid identity documents while traveling to and from the airport.
To assist tourists, the Nepal Tourism Board has arranged shuttle buses to transport them to their destinations. Buddha Air’s Information Officer Dipendra Kumar Karna confirmed that flights have been running on schedule since Thursday morning, adding that airlines have been instructed to prioritize passengers who had been stranded at TIA and other locations.
The airport was closed on September 9, and a meeting of the TIA Security Board on Wednesday decided to resume operations from 3:30 pm the same day.
TIA normally operates from 6:00 am in the morning till late night at 1:00 am daily. On the domestic front, 21 airlines, including 12 helicopter operators, handle over 250 flights each day, while 30 international airlines—including three Nepali carriers—operate around 100 flights daily. -- RSS
