Government’s Budget Expenditure Stands at 9% in First Two Months of Current FY

The government's budget expenditure stood at 9.17 percent of the allocated amount as of mid-September in the current fiscal year (FY 2025/26), according to the Financial Comptroller General Office.

Of the total Rs 1,964.11 billion budget, expenditure reached Rs 180.18 billion in the first two months of the current fiscal year.

During the review period, the government’s current expenditure stood at 9.67 percent, capital expenditure 1.56 percent, and financial management 15.89 percent.

The government had earmarked Rs 1180.98 billion towards current expenditure out of which it spent Rs 114.18 billion. Only Rs 6.35 billion was spent from the Rs 407.89 billion earmarked for capital expenditure. Under financial management, Rs 59.63 billion was spent out of Rs 375.24 billion.

Revenue collection reached 10.43 percent of the annual target of Rs 1533.44 billion, with Rs 159.99 billion raised so far. Tax revenue stood at Rs 150.40 billion, or 11.35 percent of the Rs 1325.58 billion goal. Non-tax revenue totaled Rs 7.13 billion or 4.62 percent of the Rs 154.42 billion target.

Meanwhile, the government's target for mobilizing foreign grants of Rs 53.44 billion in the current fiscal year remains low with only Rs 1.27 billion (2.38 percent) realized so far.
