The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in partnership with tourism stakeholders, has rolled out the “Nepal Now” campaign to reassure visitors that Nepal remains a safe and welcoming destination. The initiative, which began Friday, September 19, at Basantapur, has since expanded nationwide.
The campaign leverages social media with live broadcasts from key cultural and natural attractions. In the coming days, destinations such as Pokhara and Chitwan will be featured, alongside other major tourism hubs. The sessions, streamed twice daily at 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM, are scheduled to capture audiences across different time zones, NTB officials said.
“We want to show that Nepal is safe to travel,” said NTB CEO Deepak Raj Joshi. “The live experiences shared by tourists themselves will encourage more travellers to witness Nepal’s beauty firsthand.”
The effort comes as Nepal’s tourism sector reels from the devastation caused during the Gen Z-led protests on September 8 and 9. Nearly two dozen hotels in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Bhairahawa, and Dang were vandalised or torched. According to preliminary estimates from the Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), losses exceed Rs 25 billion.
The protests triggered a sharp fall in arrivals, compounded by travel advisories from Nepal’s key source markets. NTB data shows average daily arrivals plunged from 3,181 to 1,365 after the unrest. Nepal recorded 33,638 visitors in the first half of September 2025.
With September to December being the country’s peak tourism season, operators report hotel occupancy has dropped to around 30 percent as trekking, tours, adventure activities, and cultural travel remain on hold.
Joshi said Nepal Now will continue until stability returns, with the campaign designed to showcase Nepal’s resilience and restore confidence among global travellers.
