Buddha Air, Nepal’s leading private airline, is set to resume direct flights between Kathmandu and Kolkata, the capital of India’s West Bengal state, from October 19. This will be the carrier’s second international destination after Varanasi.

Buddha Air is the only Nepali airline to operate on the Kathmandu–Kolkata route and, with the relaunch, will also remain the sole carrier flying the sector. Initially, flights will operate three times a week—on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Departures from Kathmandu are scheduled for 7:00 AM, while return flights from Kolkata will leave at 9:20 AM local time. The service will use ATR-72 aircraft, with a flight duration of approximately 1 hour 35 minutes.

It has introduced a one-way introductory fare of Rs 13,353. Alongside, its sister company, Buddha Holidays, is offering special pilgrimage and tourism packages. For Nepali travellers, packages include visits to Jagannath Puri, Sundarbans, and Gangasagar, while inbound packages will promote cultural and natural attractions across Nepal to Indian visitors.

The airline said the Kathmandu–Kolkata flights are aimed at strengthening tourism and business ties while saving passengers both time and money. The new service is also expected to bring more Indian religious and leisure tourists into Nepal.

The Kathmandu–Kolkata service was first launched on April 15, 2019, but was suspended from December 2, 2019, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
