Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal on Friday, September 26, met with heads of local donor agencies, foreign ambassadors, representatives of United Nations agencies, and officials from multilateral and bilateral development partners to discuss Nepal’s economic priorities in the wake of recent political changes.
The discussions and interactions, held at the Ministry of Finance, were attended by ambassadors from Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Finland, and Australia, along with representatives from India, Norway, the European Union, the World Food Programme, and other development partners, the ministry said in a statement.
Minister Khanal expressed gratitude for the sustained support provided by development partners to Nepal’s economic and social development. He underlined the government’s immediate priorities, stressing a commitment to transparency, accountability, rule of law, and the creation of a corruption‑free society in line with the aspirations of recent youth‑led movements.
Highlighting the damage to public and private properties during recent protests, Khanal said the government would prioritise reconstruction efforts through prudent spending and austerity measures. He also pledged to accelerate economic reform programmes to strengthen recovery.
Representatives of the development partners welcomed the government’s policy direction, reaffirmed their commitment to continuing existing projects, and expressed readiness to explore new areas of cooperation. They acknowledged Nepal’s current challenges and reiterated their resolve to support the country’s development agenda.
