The government is preparing to terminate contract agreements of over 200 road and bridge projects that have remained in limbo for years, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising said Saturday, September 27.
The projects were awarded under the Road Division Offices, the Postal Highway, and the Mid-Hill Highway, all overseen by the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office of the Department of Roads.
Ghising, who also oversees the Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, and Urban Development ministries, made the announcement during a meeting with officials and stakeholders.
Among them, 38 projects fall under the Damak office in Jhapa, 75 in Kathmandu, 39 in Pokhara, and 49 in Surkhet. Sixteen are linked to the Postal Highway, while 17 belong to the Mid-Hill Highway.
The minister added that a committee would be formed to investigate both past and current officials associated with the projects for delays and negligence.
