The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index closed 0.43 percent, or 11.51 points, higher at 2,663.51 Sunday, September 28 — the last trading day before the Dashain holidays.

During intraday trade, the benchmark climbed to 2,671.68 points before retreating to a low of 2,647.96.

Of the total listed companies traded, 170 advanced, 69 declined, and 12 remained unchanged.

Brokers said the positive close, coming just after the government’s reform taskforce submitted its report, signalled potential upward momentum in the days ahead.

Global IME Sammunat Yojana-2 (GBIMESY2) was the day’s top gainer, rising 10 percent, while Sikles Hydropower (SIKLES) fell the most, down 10 percent.

Turnover remained subdued at under Rs 3 billion, compared to over Rs 3.26 billion the previous trading day. Union Hydropower (UNHPL) topped the turnover chart with trades worth more than Rs 241.1 million as its share price climbed 5.33 percent.

By sector, the Trading Index registered the steepest fall, down 1.28 percent. The Hotel and Tourism Index slipped 0.15 percent, and the Others Index shed 0.14 percent. All other sub-indices closed higher, led by the Mutual Fund Index, which rose 0.96 percent.

Total market capitalisation increased to Rs 4,452.68 billion from Rs 4,433.44 billion last Thursday.

The market will reopen on Sunday, October 5, after the holiday break.
