The District Administration Office, Kathmandu has urged commuters to avoid travelling in or out of the Valley by road at night over the next few days, following a safety alert issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Central and Eastern Nepal.
Assistant Chief District Officer Ashok Kumar Bhandari said Kathmandu is likely to experience intense rainfall from October 3 to 6, increasing the risks of floods, landslides, and soil erosion in vulnerable areas. Residents have been advised to stay indoors, remain alert, and avoid unnecessary travel.
The administration has further requested the public to refrain from undertaking long-distance travel during this period unless absolutely necessary.

Earlier, the Lalitpur District Administration had restricted vehicle movement along the Kanti Highway, allowing operation only between 6 am and 4 pm, and banning vehicles larger than four-wheel drives.
Several other districts have also imposed travel restrictions in high-risk areas as a precaution.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday.
