The District Administration Office, Kaski has urged tourists to avoid trekking in high Himalayan regions as weather forecasts warn of heavy rainfall and possible snowfall over the coming days.

The advisory follows a Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecast predicting heavy to very heavy rain, particularly in central and eastern Nepal, until October 6.

Assistant Chief District Officer Shiva Prasad Lamsal said public notices have been issued to caution trekkers against visiting popular destinations including Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Mardi Himal Base Camp, Model Machhapuchhre Trek, Kapuche Trek, and Khumal.

“There is a possibility of snowfall in the high Himalayan regions,” Lamsal said. “We urge everyone not to venture into any trekking areas until weather conditions improve.”

The Dashain holiday season typically draws a surge of domestic and foreign trekkers to Kaski’s mountain routes. However, this year the tourism flow has slowed following the administration’s warning, with the hospitality sector bracing for a quiet festive period.

Hotels and restaurants along the trekking routes, usually crowded during the holidays, are expected to see fewer visitors.

Authorities have also advised the public to remain alert to potential disasters such as floods, landslides, and snow-induced blockages, and to contact local representatives, police units, or security agencies immediately in case of emergencies.
