The Maurice Herzog trekking route and the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) in Annapurna Rural Municipality–4, Myagdi, have been closed for two days as the monsoon system reactivates, bringing a heightened risk of heavy rain and snowfall.

According to the rural municipality office, the routes will remain closed to tourists on Saturday and Sunday. Ward Chair Lok Bahadur Pun said the decision was made after issuing a public notice, warning that the expected rainfall and snowfall could cause difficulties for trekkers and increase the risk of accidents along the trails.

The Annapurna Base Camp, located at the foot of the 8,091-metre-high Mount Annapurna, falls within the jurisdiction of Annapurna Rural Municipality–4. With the start of the Dashain holidays, the route has been seeing around 100 tourists per day, including domestic and foreign visitors.

The District Administration Office, Myagdi, has also issued a separate public notice urging travellers to avoid visiting other popular destinations such as Punhill, Ghorepani, Mohare Danda, Gurja, Dhorpatan, and the Dhaulagiri Circuit until the weather improves.

Authorities have further announced a temporary suspension of vehicular movement along the Beni–Jomsom road section in Myagdi, which connects the district to Mustang. The road will remain closed from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily from Saturday through Monday.

Chief District Officer Badri Prasad Tiwari said precautionary measures have been enforced after the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall, especially across the central and eastern parts of the country.
