Domestic flights from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have been suspended as continuous rainfall since Saturday morning disrupted flight operations across the country.
According to Hansa Raj Pandey, General Manager at TIA, flights to and from several destinations including Kathmandu, Bharatpur, Janakpur, Bhadrapur, Pokhara, and Tumlingtar have been grounded due to poor weather conditions.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. While international flights are still operating, domestic flights have been temporarily suspended as flying in this continuous rainfall poses safety risks,” Pandey told the state-owned RSS news agency.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said rain has persisted across Kathmandu and many other parts of the country throughout the day. The department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall later today and throughout Sunday.
