Prime Minister Sushila Karki said Saturday evening, October 4, that all available state resources will be mobilised to safeguard citizens amid the ongoing disaster.

In a video message addressed to the nation, she said all state agencies had been deployed in response to continuous heavy rainfall across the country since the evening of October 3. The Prime Minister urged everyone to follow official safety instructions and remain indoors whenever possible.

Citing forecasts from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Karki warned that the downpour is expected to continue for another two days and appealed for vigilance and caution.

“We are at high risk of floods, landslides, and erosion, with several areas facing severe danger,” she said. “Government agencies are working round the clock with high morale to carry out rescue and relief operations. Highways and other infrastructures are under close surveillance. Please stay safe where you are, encourage others to do the same, avoid unnecessary travel, and prioritise safety in every decision.”

The Prime Minister also noted that, given the heightened risks, the government has declared a public holiday for Sunday and Monday. She urged the public to adhere to information and directives issued by the police and other concerned authorities.
