A total of 285 people have lost their lives and 27 remain missing in various disaster and hazard-related incidents across the country since April 14, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that 44 people died and five went missing in such incidents on Sunday alone.
The highest number of casualties occurred in Ilam, where 37 people lost their lives in landslides. As of the latest update, 50 districts have been affected by different disasters.
According to NDRRMA data, snake bites caused the highest number of deaths since April 14—the beginning of the Nepali new year—claiming 86 lives. Likewise, 46 people died in landslides, and 45 in lightning strikes.
Other causes of fatalities included floods (30 deaths), heavy rainfall (6), fires (23), storms (8), and animal attacks (22).
Mahat added that 23 people went missing in floods, three in landslides, and one due to an animal attack. -- RSS
