Shuklaphanta National Park has reopened jungle safari for tourists after a closure during the monsoon season.

According to the park administration, safaris resumed on Monday after repair work on the rain-damaged routes made travel possible again.

“The safari has been reopened along specific routes only, while maintenance continues on others,” said Purushottam Wagle, the park’s information officer.

At present, tourists can take two designated routes: the first from Majhagaun–Bathaniya Taal, Baba Taal, Dudhiya Camp, and Rani Taal to Singhapur and back via the same route; and the second from Majhagaun–Paliyaphanta–Hattisar Chowk to Barkola Post and return along the same trail.

Covering an area of 305 square kilometers, Shuklaphanta National Park is known for its large population of swamp deer, numbering over 2,323. The park also shelters 461 species of birds, 56 species of mammals, 56 species of reptiles, 15 species of amphibians, 88 species of fish, and 111 species of butterflies.

Visitors can also enjoy birdwatching around the park’s lakes and rivers, which attract diverse species throughout the year. -- RSS
