Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kulman Ghising departed for New Delhi, India, on Monday afternoon, October 27, to attend the 8th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

Ghising, who also oversees the Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development portfolios, travelled aboard Nepal Airlines, the national flag carrier.

The four-day assembly, taking place from October 27 to 30, will gather ministers from over 40 countries. The forum will focus on solar energy expansion, sustainable energy access, climate change mitigation, and opportunities for cross-border collaboration.

According to the Ministry of Energy, Nepal’s participation reaffirms its commitment to accelerating solar adoption as part of its broader pursuit of sustainable and clean energy development through international cooperation.

Minister Ghising will deliver a keynote address during a thematic session titled “Envisioning Regional and Global Interconnections for Large-Scale Clean Energy Transition.”

The International Solar Alliance, launched in November 2015 under the Paris Declaration, aims to collectively address shared challenges and boost global solar capacity. The alliance seeks to mobilise over USD 1 trillion by 2030 to scale up solar deployment and support technological advancement in the sector.

Nepal joined the ISA as its 101st member in 2024, following the parliamentary ratification of the ISA Framework Agreement.

Minister Ghising is scheduled to return home Wednesday.
