More than two dozen Nepali startup promoters are set to receive an opportunity to participate in an eight-week training and internship program in India.
According to the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, the initiative has been launched under the India–Nepal Startup Partnership Program with the aim of connecting Nepali startup founders to India’s startup ecosystem. The embassy expressed confidence that the program will benefit both countries.
The training will be conducted at the IIT Madras (IITM) Incubation Cell’s Promoted Technologies Foundation. The program will commence on December 1 and run for eight weeks.
In a formal statement, the embassy said the initiative is designed to support Nepal’s growing startup environment and enhance its effectiveness. Commerce Attaché Atul Madan at the embassy said the program is being organized to link Nepal’s startup network with that of India. He added that, for the first time, 25 individuals or companies will participate in this bilateral initiative, which is expected to continue in the coming years.
Applications for individuals or organizations are being accepted from November 1 to 15. Candidates will be selected through interviews conducted via video conference. According to Madan, the program is open to both idea-stage and operational startups, but applicants must pass the selection process.
The program will be fully funded with complete scholarships for participants. It will be held at the IITM Research Park in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. To promote awareness, information sessions will be organized on Tuesday at 4 PM at Pulchowk Engineering College and at 5 PM at the Embassy of India in Lainchaur.
IIT Madras operates with support from India’s Department of Science and Technology. The embassy noted that IITM has previously collaborated with Tribhuvan University and Kathmandu University on startup and IT-related initiatives.
Program Structure includes entrepreneurship training, including incubation-focused guidance for the first four weeks followed by specialized skills training such as the use of AI tools in startups, 3D printing, solar installation and maintenance, and other technical competencies in the fifth and sixth weeks. The final two weeks will be internship placement at an Indian startup.
