At least three people, including a foreign climber, have died after an avalanche struck near the Yalung Ri base camp in Dolakha district on Monday morning, November 3. Four others sustained injuries, while eight remain missing, police said, citing information from the injured survivors.

The avalanche occurred near the Yalung Ri area under the Gaurishankar and Rolwaling mountain ranges in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality–9. The deceased include one foreign national and two Nepali guides, according to police.

A team of 15 foreign climbers and Nepali guides was caught in the avalanche around 9 a.m., said Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyan Kumar Mahato.

Ward Chair Nimgeli Sherpa said rescue efforts were delayed despite repeated requests to authorities early in the morning. He added that delays in obtaining flight permission for helicopters — since the Rolwaling region is a restricted area — further complicated the operation.

Police said search operations are ongoing. Although helicopters have been deployed, they have been unable to reach the site due to poor weather conditions. Personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force are heading toward the area, authorities said.
