Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed all government bodies to adopt austerity measures in public spending and ensure efficient use of state resources.

During a meeting with ministers and secretaries on Monday to review the government’s work progress, Prime Minister Karki emphasized the need to deliver on the mandate given by the younger generation for prosperity, development, good governance, equality, and corruption control.

She urged ministries to prepare and implement a “blueprint” that enables citizens to experience tangible improvements in service delivery, corruption prevention, and governance.

Calling for stronger dialogue and collaboration with the private sector, the prime minister said such cooperation would help improve the business environment and boost morale in the industrial sector.

Issuing a 14-point directive, she instructed officials to focus on rebuilding public trust in the government and motivating civil servants and security personnel. She also underlined the importance of conducting employee transfers and promotions transparently, fairly, and predictably.

Prime Minister Karki directed the concerned authorities to prepare reports on the damages to public structures during the Gen Z protests and to develop a reconstruction policy and action plan. She also instructed them to ensure uninterrupted public services by arranging prompt procurement or alternative service delivery mechanisms.

Informing that she has been holding continuous discussions with the Election Commission, security bodies, political parties, and other stakeholders to create a conducive environment for election, Prime Minister Karki urged all concerned to perform their duties efficiently in preparing for the upcoming polls.

She further advised ministries to review the implementation of their annual action plans and introduce new standards for better outcomes. She also instructed concerned bodies to convene meetings of all councils and committees, including the Inter-Province Council, under their leadership, and to discuss diplomatic affairs in the presence of newly appointed ministers and chief ministers.

“All forms of criminal activities must be curbed to uphold the rule of law—there should be no compromise on this,” she said.

The prime minister also instructed officials to make the public administration more effective by scrapping unnecessary structures and merging or transferring them as needed.

“You are the permanent government. Fulfill your responsibilities by utilizing your knowledge, skills, and experience,” she told the bureaucrats. -- RSS
