A Rs 2.98 billion state-of-the-art terminal building has been completed at Nepalgunj Airport in western Nepal, marking a significant upgrade to one of the country’s main regional air hubs.
Nal Bikram Thapa, Project Manager of the Nepalgunj Airport Terminal Building Project, said the construction company completed the work about one and a half months ahead of schedule.
The newly completed terminal will be handed over to the project within a few days.
Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Pradeep Adhikari, inspected the facility on Friday, November 7, and said preparations were underway to bring it into operation as soon as possible.
Adhikari also noted that discussions are ongoing with Indian authorities to begin flights from Nepalgunj to major Indian cities such as Delhi and Lucknow.
Ramesh Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of Sharma & Company, which carried out the construction, said the terminal meets the standards required for handling international flights.
Designed to accommodate up to 1,600 passengers per hour during peak times, the three-storey building includes a semi-basement floor for commercial use and spans an area of 5,075 square metres. The terminal houses 14 passenger check-in counters, three VIP lounges, a children’s play area, and dedicated rooms for customs and quarantine checks.
The complex also features landscaped gardens and an internal road ranging from five to 14 metres in width.
