Nepal and India have signed an agreement for the implementation of 11 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal under grant assistance from the Government of India. The projects will focus on the sectors of education, health, and waste management.
Representatives from the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Nepal’s Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, and the respective implementing agencies of the Government of Nepal signed the agreement on Monday.
According to the Indian Embassy, the projects will be implemented at a total estimated cost of around Rs 1.16 billion.
Since 2003, the Government of India has supported 590 High Impact Community Development Projects across Nepal. Of these, 502 projects in areas such as education, health, drinking water, sanitation, connectivity, and public utilities have already been completed, while the remaining projects are under various stages of implementation. These projects cover all seven provinces of Nepal.
India and Nepal, as close neighbors, have long shared a multifaceted and broad-based partnership, the statement added. The Indian Embassy stated that these India-supported projects are expected to contribute to human resource development and infrastructure growth in Nepal’s priority sectors. -- RSS
