India clinched the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind on Sunday, November 23, defeating Nepal by seven wickets in the final held at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Extending their unbeaten streak, India chased down the target of 115 in just 12.1 overs, finishing at 117/3. Phula Soren led the charge with an unbeaten 44 off 27 balls.

Earlier, after being invited to bat, Nepal managed to put up 114 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Sarita Ghimire top-scored with 35 off 38 balls.

The tournament featured six countries — Nepal, India, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the United States — and ran from November 11. Co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, matches were held across New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Colombo.

Matches were played with a specially designed ball fitted with bearings — standard for the format — which helps batters track its movement.

Each team has 11 players, with at least four required to be totally blind, classified as B1. The remaining partially sighted players are grouped into B2 and B3 categories based on their level of vision.
