ERC Set to Join SAFIR after Cabinet Approval

The membership will allow Nepal’s energy regulator to share knowledge, exchange experience, and learn from regional and global peers

Nepal’s Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) is set to secure membership in the South Asia Forum for Infrastructure Regulation (SAFIR) after receiving government approval.

A cabinet meeting held on November 24 granted the clearance. The ERC had been pursuing SAFIR membership for several years.

SAFIR, established in 1999, states on its official website that its mission is to provide high-quality capacity building and training on infrastructure regulation in South Asia. It also aims to promote research by developing a network of regional and international institutions and experts working in the field.

The membership will allow Nepal’s energy regulator to share knowledge, exchange experience, and learn from regional and global peers. It is expected to help the commission adopt best regulatory practices, strengthen institutional capacity, and support energy-related research.
