The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index slipped for the sixth straight day on Monday, December 8, edging down 0.11 percent or 3.02 points to close at 2,606.67.
The benchmark index ended every trading day in the red last week, after rising every day the previous week .
Market activity weakened on Monday, with 10.15 million shares traded across 83,273 transactions, generating turnover of Rs 4.66 billion, down from Sunday’s Rs 5.33 billion. The previous session had seen 10.87 million shares change hands across 67,485 transactions.
All key sub-indices closed lower. The Sensitive Index fell 0.33 percent, the Float Index declined 0.17 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index dropped 0.34 percent.
Market breadth remained weak, with 147 of the traded securities declining, 99 advancing, and 12 remaining unchanged.
Upper Syange Hydropower Ltd (USHL) hit the upper circuit and led the day’s gainers. Swastik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd (SWASTIK), Jhapa Energy Ltd (JHAPA), and Shreenagar Agritech Industries Ltd (SAIL) also surged 9.99 percent.
On the downside, Support Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha Ltd (SMB) recorded the sharpest fall, dropping 5.16 percent.
Ngadi Group Power Ltd (NGPL) topped the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 558.66 million, followed by Sagar Distillery Ltd (SAGAR) and Pure Energy Ltd (PURE).
Among the 13 sectoral indices, five closed higher. The Manufacturing & Processing sub-index posted the strongest gain at 0.61 percent, while Life Insurance rose 0.50 percent, Trading 0.41 percent, Hydropower 0.12 percent, and Non-Life Insurance 0.05 percent. The Banking sub-index registered the steepest decline at 0.67 percent.
Total market capitalization fell to Rs 4,376.65 billion from Rs 4,381.73 billion on Sunday.
