The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index ended its six-day losing streak on Tuesday, December 9, closing 0.28 percent, or 7.39 points, higher at 2,614.07.
The index had slipped 0.81 percent on Sunday and 0.11 percent on Monday. Last week, it finished every trading day in the red, reversing the five straight days of gains in the previous week.
Market activity, however, weakened on Tuesday. Turnover fell to Rs 3.75 billion, down from Rs 4.66 billion on Monday. A total of 8.74 million shares changed hands in 62,665 transactions, compared with 10.15 million shares across 83,273 transactions the previous day.
All major sub-indices closed higher. The Sensitive Index rose 0.06 percent, the Float Index gained 0.21 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index added 0.07 percent.
Of the traded securities, 148 advanced, 101 declined, and nine were unchanged.
Swastik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SWASTIK) hit the upper circuit and led the day’s gainers. On the downside, Him Star Urja Company Limited (HIMSTAR) fell 3.88 percent, the sharpest drop of the session.
Ngadi Group Power Ltd (NGPL) topped the turnover chart with trades worth Rs 319.20 million, followed by Laxmi Sunrise Bank Limited (LSL) and Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd (RADHI).
Among the 13 sectoral indices, four closed lower. Hotels and Tourism was the strongest performer, up 0.88 percent. Non-Life Insurance recorded the steepest decline at 0.17 percent.
Total market capitalisation rose to Rs 4,389.08 billion from Rs 4,376.65 billion on Monday.
