NEPSE Slips Again

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index, which ended a six-day losing streak on Tuesday with a 0.28% gain, fell on Wednesday, December 10, dropping 0.19% or 5.03 points to close at 2,609.03. Earlier this week, the index had slipped 0.81% on Sunday and 0.11% on Monday.

Last week, the NEPSE ended every trading day in the red, reversing five straight days of gains from the previous week.

Market activity also weakened on Wednesday, with turnover declining to Rs 3.73 billion from Rs 3.75 billion on Tuesday. A total of 8.64 million shares were traded in 91,394 transactions, compared with 8.74 million shares across 62,665 transactions on Tuesday.

All major sub-indices closed lower. The Sensitive Index fell 0.19%, the Float Index dropped 0.17%, and the Sensitive Float Index declined 0.18%. 

Of the traded securities, 80 advanced, 169 declined, and nine remained unchanged.

Swastik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SWASTIK) and Muktinath Krishi Company Limited (MKCL) hit the upper circuit, leading the day’s gainers. SY Panel Nepal Limited (SYPNL) followed with a 9.97% rise.

On the downside, Jhapa Energy Limited (JHAPA) recorded the sharpest drop, falling 9.30%.

Shreenagar Agritech Industries Limited (SAIL) topped the turnover chart with trades worth Rs 263.942 million, followed by Ngadi Group Power Ltd. (NGPL) and Universal Power Company Ltd. (UPCL).

Among the 13 sectoral indices, only Manufacturing & Processing and Mutual Fund ended in the green, rising 1.22% and 0.39%, respectively. The Hydropower Index suffered the steepest loss at 0.66%.

Total market capitalization fell to Rs 4,380.62 billion from Rs 4,389.08 billion on Tuesday.
