The price of gold in Nepal’s domestic market rose sharply on Sunday, surging past the previous record high of Rs 258,000 per tola (11.66 grams) set on October 17, as global prices of the precious yellow metal continued their upward trend.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold reached Rs 258,800 per tola on Sunday, an increase by Rs 2,200 per tola compared to Friday’s rate when gold was traded at Rs 256,600 per tola.
The price of silver, however, declined on Sunday. Silver was priced at Rs 3,825 per tola, down from Rs 3,905 per tola on Friday, the association said.
In the international market, gold is being traded at $4,299 per ounce, while silver is priced at $62 per ounce, according to international media reports.
Earlier, gold prices in Nepal had touched a record high of Rs 258,000 per tola on October 17, when the price of hallmark gold jumped by Rs 7,100 in a single day, driven by a global rally in precious metals.
Domestic gold prices have remained on an upward trajectory for several weeks, interrupted only by brief corrections. The latest surge mirrors global trends, as investors increasingly turn to gold as a safe-haven asset amid fears of global conflict and broader economic uncertainty, international media reports said.
