The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and Nepal Infrastructure Bank Limited (NIFRA) on Friday, December 19, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct and operate industrial zones under the public–private partnership (PPP) model.
The agreement aligns with the government’s policy to involve the private sector in the development and operation of industrial zones.
CNI Director General Dr Ghanashyam Ojha and NIFRA Assistant Chief Executive Officer Surya Bahadur Tamang inked the MoU in the presence of Engineer Padam Oli, General Manager of Industrial Zone Management Limited.
Under the agreement, priority will be given to the construction and operation of the Shaktikhor Industrial Zone in Chitwan, CNI said in a statement. The two institutions have also agreed to collaborate on the development and operation of the Mayurdhap Industrial Zone in Hetauda and the Motipur Industrial Zone in Rupandehi.
Speaking at the event, CNI President Birendra Raj Pandey said the MoU marks the beginning of practical efforts towards industrial zone construction and operation.
NIFRA Chief Executive Officer Krishna Bahadur Adhikari described the agreement as a starting point for deeper collaboration. He said partnership with CNI would help advance industrial zone development through the PPP model.
Oli of Industrial Zone Management Limited said the agreement sends a positive signal.
The event was attended by former CNI President Bishnu Kumar Agrawal, Vice President Gokul Bhandari, Chitwan Association of Industries President Madan Ghimire, former President of the Confederation of Bagmati Province Industries and Chitwan Association of Industries Bhesraj Duwadi, CNI Industry Committee Chair Rahul Agrawal, Co-chair Guru Adhikari, CNI Infrastructure Committee Chair Ram Krishna Khatiwada, and NIFRA Deputy Chief Investment Officer Rabin Shrestha, among others.
