NEPSE Inch Up Marginally by 0.05 Percent

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index surged 0.05 percent, or 1.37 points, to close at 2,585.87 on Wednesday, December 24. Tuesday had brought a slightly higher gain of 0.12%, ending a three-day losing streak. The benchmark index had fallen 0.53% on Monday, 0.76% on Sunday, and 0.40% last Thursday.

Despite the rise in the index, daily turnover continued to decline. Total turnover fell to Rs 3.22 billion on Wednesday from Rs 3.42 billion on Tuesday.

Over 7.22 million shares changed hands across 62,768 transactions, compared to 7.66 million shares in 92,746 transactions on Tuesday.

Out of the traded securities, 111 advanced, 142 declined, and seven remained unchanged.

All three major sub-indices closed higher. The Sensitive Index rose by 0.21 percent, the Float Index gained 0.10 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index increased by 0.30 percent.

Among individual stocks, Infinity Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ILBS) topped the gainers’ list, surging 5.32 percent.

In contrast, Grameen Bikas Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (GBLBS) was the biggest loser, falling 4.23 percent.

SY Panel Nepal Limited (SYPNL) led the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 144.93 million, followed by Manjushree Finance Ltd. (MFIL) and Terhathum Power Company Limited (TPC).

Of the 13 sectoral indices, six ended in positive territory, with all gaining less than one percent. The Non-Life Insurance index posted the highest rise of 0.87 percent. Meanwhile, the Development Bank Index recorded the steepest decline, falling 0.85 percent. All losing sectoral indices also fell by less than one percent.

The total market capitalisation increased to Rs 4,341.73 billion from Rs 4,339.85 billion a day earlier.
