Ncell, a leading private telecom service provider in Nepal, brought 250 new telecommunication towers into operation across the country last year and upgraded capacity at 2,200 existing towers to strengthen its 4G network and expand services.

The company installed new towers in various local levels across all seven provinces, with a particular focus on Madhesh, Lumbini, Koshi and Bagmati provinces, according to Ncell.

As part of the expansion, Ncell extended 4G services by installing new towers in several local levels of Dailekh, Rukum West and Salyan districts in Karnali Province. New towers have also come into operation in Doti, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts of Sudurpaschim Province. In Madhesh Province, the launch of towers at dozens of locations in Siraha, Saptari and Dhanusha has enabled local residents to access improved voice quality and mobile broadband services, the company said.

Of the total 250 new towers, 197 were installed over the past two and a half months. Despite restrictions on equipment imports during part of the period, the company said it managed to bring 53 towers into operation by using existing stock and spare equipment. Ncell added that tower installation gained momentum after facilitation from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority.

According to the company, the newly added towers and upgraded sites have significantly expanded access to mobile broadband and quality voice services for customers at the local level across the provinces, further strengthening 4G connectivity.

“This network improvement and expansion is a step towards ensuring better access to reliable connectivity,” said Upang Dutt, Ncell’s Chief Consumer Business Officer.

In terms of the number of new towers, Madhesh Province recorded more than 100 installations, followed by Lumbini with over 40 and Koshi with more than 35. Additional towers have also come into operation in Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
