NEPSE Extends Gains, Closes Above 2,649

The benchmark index rises 0.37 percent on Tuesday as turnover improves and most sectors advance

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index rose by 0.37 percent, or 9.93 points, to close at 2,649.30 on Tuesday, January 6. The benchmark index had gained 1.10 percent on Monday.

Earlier, the index had declined by 0.39 percent on Sunday and 0.48 percent on Thursday, January 1.

Market activity also picked up on Tuesday, with daily turnover rising to Rs 7.12 billion from Rs 6.47 billion on Monday and Rs 5.01 billion on Sunday.

More than 14.83 million shares were traded through 88,362 transactions, up from over 12.45 million shares traded in 84,990 transactions the previous day.

Among the traded securities, 148 advanced, 103 declined, and eight remained unchanged.

All major sub-indices closed higher. The Sensitive Index rose by 0.50 percent, the Float Index gained 0.39 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index increased by 0.51 percent.

Jeevan Bikas Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd (JBLB) emerged as the top gainer, surging 9.97 percent, followed by Three Star Hydropower Limited (TSHL), which climbed 9.54 percent.

Ru Ru Jalbidhyut Pariyojana Limited (RURU) was the biggest loser, shedding 8.41 percent.

SY Panel Nepal Limited (SYPNL) led the market in turnover, with shares worth Rs 248.84 million traded, followed by Butwal Power Company Limited (BPCL) and Shivam Cements Ltd (SHIVM).

Of the 13 sectoral indices, 11 closed in positive territory.

Manufacturing and Processing declined by 0.51 percent, while the Hotels and Tourism Index fell by 0.23 percent. The Finance Index posted the strongest gain, up 2.87 percent.

Total market capitalisation rose to Rs 4,448.24 billion from Rs 4,431.56 billion on Monday.
