The Congress–UML coalition government in Koshi Province reshuffled the Cabinet on Tuesday, January 6.
Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki relieved all incumbent ministers and inducted new faces from both coalition partners.
Province Chief Parshuram Khapung administered the oath of office and secrecy to eight ministers and two state ministers on the same day. The new Cabinet reflects equal power-sharing, with each party holding four ministerial portfolios and one state minister post.
From the Nepali Congress, Pradip Kumar Sunuwar has been appointed Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development. Bhim Parajuli has taken charge of the Ministry of Tourism, Forests and Environment. Man Bahadur Limbu has been appointed Minister for Health, Israel Mansuri Minister for Industry, Agriculture and Cooperatives, and Shobha Chemjong State Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development.
From CPN-UML, Bidur Kumar Linthep has been appointed Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning. Ram Prasad Mahato has taken charge as Minister for Social Development. Tilchan Pathak has been appointed Minister for Drinking Water, Irrigation and Energy, Indramani Parajuli Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, and Umakant Gautam the State Minister for Internal Affairs and Law.
The Cabinet reshuffle comes amid speculation that the two parties are in talks to join forces for the upcoming House of Representatives elections.
