The CPN (UML) has chosen Ishwar Pokharel as its candidate for Kathmandu Constituency No. 5 in the upcoming House of Representatives election.

Earlier, Pokharel had been omitted from the party’s candidate list, reportedly due to his role in challenging the leadership of UML Chair KP Sharma Oli. However, the party decided to grant ticket to Pokharel, once considered a close confidant of Oli, on the eve of filing nomination of candidates.

Nominations for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system are being registered today, January 20.

UML Kathmandu Chair Deepak Niraula confirmed that the party has decided to field Pokharel from Kathmandu-5, the state-owned national news agency RSS reported.

Pokharel had previously contested from this constituency in both the last House of Representatives elections and the Constituent Assembly election.

Chair Niraula confirmed that all contestants have now been finalised except for Kathmandu Constituency No. 4. The confirmed candidates include: Mohan Regmi for Constituency-1, Maniram Phuyal for Constituency-2, Rameshwar Phuyal for Constituency-3, Amanman Maske for Constituency-6, Prakash Shrestha for Constituency-7, Raju Shakya for Constituency-8, Ajaykranti Shakya for Constituency-9, and Binod Shrestha for Constituency-10.
