Pun Joins List of Ministers Resigning to Contest Polls

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Mahabir Pun has resigned to contest the upcoming elections.

Pun stepped down on Tuesday, January 20, the same day the Election Commission scheduled the filing of nominations under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system for the House of Representatives.

The 275-member House has 165 seats elected through the FPTP system and 110 through proportional representation.

Following his resignation, Pun filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Myagdi. 

So far, four ministers – Kulman Ghising, Bablu Gupta, Jagdish Kharel and Pun – in the Sushila Karki-led Cabinet have stepped down to contest the polls. 

The Karki Cabinet now has 11 members.
