CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, after submitting his candidacy from Jhapa-5 for the upcoming House of Representatives elections, asserted that he has no competitor in the constituency.
The statement came just hours after Balendra (Balen) Shah filed his nomination from Oli’s home turf. Oli had previously won the 2022 general election from the same constituency.
Shah, who resigned as Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor on Sunday to contest the polls, is expected to be a key challenger.
So far, a total of eight candidates, including Ranjit Tamang of the Nepali Communist Party and Laxmi Prasad Sangroula of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, have filed nominations from Jhapa-5, according to election officials.
