The government has decided to extend the tenure of the probe commission formed to investigate the crackdown and destruction during the Gen Z-led protests of September 8 and 9 by 20 days.
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal said the decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held on Thursday, January 22, at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar.
Notably, Aryal was appointed the government spokesperson the same day.
The Cabinet meeting of September 21 had formed a three-member commission under the chairmanship of Gauri Bahadur Karki, former chair of the special court.
Former Nepal Police Additional Inspector General (AIG) Bigyan Raj Sharma and legal expert Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari are members of the commission.
Initially given a three-month mandate, its tenure was earlier extended by a month.
