Westerly winds are likely to bring rain and snowfall in several parts of western Nepal on Friday, with cloud cover gradually spreading eastward, the Weather Forecasting Division said.
According to the Division, moderate rainfall is likely in parts of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Lumbini and Gandaki provinces, while light to moderate snowfall is expected in some high hills and mountainous areas of Karnali, Sudurpaschim and Gandaki provinces.
Clouds that began forming over western Nepal are spreading toward central and eastern regions, which is expected to result in generally cloudy conditions in Bagamati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces by Friday night. Hill regions of the remaining provinces are expected to see partial cloud cover, while most parts of the Terai will remain mainly fair with the occurrence of fog in the morning.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said thunderstorms may accompany rainfall in some areas, and isolated hailstorms cannot be ruled out. Meteorologists also noted that lingering cloud cover is likely to cause a drop in temperature across the country, while the weather conditions are expected to gradually improve from Saturday.
The Division has urged the public and concerned agencies to remain alert, citing possible impacts on daily life, health services, tourism, and air and land transportations. – With inputs from RSS
