Gold prices hit a fresh record in Nepal’s domestic market on Monday, January 26.

The price of fine gold rose by Rs 5,200 per tola (11.66 gram) to Rs 309,000 per tola, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Associations. On Sunday, gold was priced at Rs 303,800 per tola. The yellow metal crossed the Rs 300,000 mark for the first time on Friday, setting a historic milestone in the domestic bullion market.

Silver prices also increased, rising to Rs 6,765 per tola from Rs 6,480 per tola on Sunday.

The surge mirrors global market trends. Gold climbed above the $5,000-per-ounce mark on Monday, extending a historic rally as investors turned to the safe-haven asset amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty, Reuters reported.

“Spot gold climbed 1.5% to $5,058.09 per ounce by 0544 GMT, after touching an all-time high of $5,092.71 earlier,” said the Reuters report. “U.S. gold futures for February delivery gained 1.6% to $5,056.60 per ounce.”

Gold price surged 64 percent in 2025 – the biggest annual gain since 1979 – and has already risen more than 17 percent this year.

Spot silver, too, advanced 3.8 percent to $106.8, after hitting a record of $109.44, added the Reuters report. It climbed past the $100 mark for the first time last Friday.

International media reports attribute the latest rally partly to the concerns over confidence in US assets and administration. Tensions over trade policy, including tariff threats by US President Donald Trump against allies and trading partners, have added to market uncertainty. Analysts have also cited continued selling of US Treasuries and geopolitical risks as factors pushing investors towards gold as a safe haven.

Despite the bullish outlook, some analysts have warned of a possible technical pause or sharp correction in the near term, Xinhua reported.
