Fresh Westerly Disturbance to Bring Light Rain to Kathmandu, Snowfall in High Hills

Weather update posted by DHM on its official Facebook page.

Days after snowfall and rain affected western and far-western Nepal, another western low-pressure system is set to enter the country, bringing light rainfall to Kathmandu and snowfall in high-altitude regions, meteorologists said.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), the new system will enter Nepal from the far-western region late Tuesday night and is expected to influence weather conditions across much of the country by Wednesday.

Senior meteorologist Barun Paudel of the DHM’s Weather Forecasting Division said the system is relatively weak but could still cause light rainfall in the Kathmandu Valley.

“There is a possibility of light rain in Kathmandu on Wednesday, but the system is weak and there is no likelihood of heavy rainfall,” Paudel told RSS. He added that the system could trigger snowfall and rain in the mountainous and high-hill regions.

The weather system is expected to spread from western Nepal to Gandaki and Lumbini provinces by Tuesday afternoon, intensify slightly by Tuesday night, and extend across most parts of the country on Wednesday. It is likely to begin clearing gradually from Wednesday night, Paudel said.

The DHM said the weather conditions could affect daily life, tourism, health services, and air and road transportation, and urged the public to stay updated through its regular weather bulletins. -- RSS
