The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has clarified that there is no shortage of cooking gas in the market, even as consumers in several places have faced supply disruptions and long queues to obtain LPG cylinders.

Issuing a press statement on Monday, the state-owned oil monopoly said the overall supply of LPG is sufficient to meet market demand and described the current problem as a minor supply issue faced by some distributors. The clarification comes amid complaints of delayed deliveries and shortages at retail outlets in recent days.

The NOC said it has instructed gas industries to ensure smooth and regular supply of LPG cylinders in order to normalise the market.

According to the Corporation, gas industries imported 47,304 metric tonnes of LPG from the Indian Oil Corporation in January. Prior to that, the country had imported 47,264 metric tonnes in November 2025 and 48,531 metric tonnes in December the same year. NOC said these volumes are adequate to meet the winter demand nationwide.

NOC Spokesperson Manoj Kumar Thakur acknowledged that minor supply issues have been reported by some gas industries. He said the Corporation has directed the concerned suppliers to promptly improve distribution and ease the situation.

Considering the current market condition and the upcoming March 5 election, Thakur said the NOC has placed a requisition for an additional 2,000 metric tonnes of LPG under the regular quota for this month as a precautionary measure.

The NOC has urged consumers to purchase LPG cylinders only as required and avoid unnecessary stockpiling, stating that panic buying could further disrupt distribution. – With inputs from RSS
