A delegation including Qatar’s Ambassador to Nepal, Mishal Mohammed A. A. Al-Ansari, Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry board member Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli, and representatives of Qatar Airways held discussions with Nepal’s Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Anil Kumar Sinha, in Kathmandu on Monday, February 9.
The talks focused on strengthening cooperation in economic development, tourism promotion and the expansion of air connectivity.
Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal also participated in the meeting.
The discussions explored ways to increase the number of direct flights between Nepal and Qatar, add new destinations, and deepen cooperation between Nepal Airlines Corporation and Qatar Airways.
Minister Sinha said active cooperation from international airlines was crucial to operate Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport at full capacity. He added that the government has prioritised policy reforms and facilitation to boost tourism, investment and trade.
FNCCI President Dhakal said Nepal and Qatar have strong potential for collaboration in tourism, investment, aviation, hotels and infrastructure. He highlighted opportunities for Qatari investors in hydropower, tourism and agriculture.
Al-Obaidli said Qatar’s private sector was interested in long-term economic cooperation with Nepal. He expressed confidence that aviation and tourism partnerships would further strengthen trade and people-to-people ties.
The Qatari delegation arrived in Nepal on Sunday at the invitation of FNCCI to attend a meeting of the Nepal–Qatar Joint Business Council (JBC).
