Private carrier Surya Airlines is set to resume its regular flight services from late February, after its operations were suspended for over a year and a half following a fatal crash.
The airline has received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal and plans to restart operations with three daily flights initially. Services will resume on the Kathmandu-Pokhara route, along with flights to Biratnagar and Bhairahawa, according to the company’s Marketing Manager, Mukesh Khanal.
Surya Airlines’ operations were suspended on July 24, 2024, after one of its aircraft, a 9N-AME Bombardier CRJ200, crashed near Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu during a flight to Pokhara. The accident resulted in 18 fatalities.
The CAAN had lifted its operational ban on the airline on August 15, 2025. Khanal stated that the airline secured flight permission after scoring above 65% in a mandatory safety audit conducted by the regulatory body.
Currently, the airline possesses two 50-seater Bombardier CRJ200 series aircraft, which will be used for flights after operations resume. The company has also mentioned that it obtained official approval on 16 October, 2022 to bring in ATR 72-600 series aircraft to expand its services in the future.
